Thailand

Thailand is commonly known as the ‘kitchen of the world’. It is a lead net exporter of food in Asia, with significant expertise in food production. It is also highly vulnerable to the effects of climate change.

Globally, our food system produces around one third of greenhouse gas emissions. So Thailand has both a big opportunity and a significant incentive to reduce emissions from food production.

Madre Brava works with policy makers, civil society and industry actors in Thailand to support efforts to rebalance protein production with more plants and less meat, helping the country lower its emissions and reap the economic rewards in the process.

Rolling green hills fill the foreground, with carefully tendered layers suggesting meticulous farming. A small hut sits within them. In the background, more luscious green in the form of dense forest.
