Germany

The ‘Big Four’ supermarkets in Germany control more than 75% of the market. They have immense power to shape a food system that works for people and the planet.

More than 90% of their emissions come from the products they sell. More than half of those emissions come from their meat and dairy products. The solution is simple: rebalance their protein offering to include more plants and less meat and dairy.

Madre Brava works with supermarkets and civil society groups in Germany to help everyone benefit from this shift. Our cutting-edge research shows supermarkets how to offer sustainable, healthy, affordable food and deliver on their climate commitments, often while increasing profits.
